I’m a certified health coach, special needs mom and former corporate trainer.
I was used to juggling all the things, living on caffeine, junk food and adrenaline. Sure, I was tired, but what mom isn’t, right?
Plus, the rosacea, candida overgrowth, acid reflux, crazy sugar cravings, a scale that only went UP and running to the bathroom for emergency trips (I’ll spare you details) are all normal, too, right?
I was the devoted dieter during the day and the exhausted pantry raider in the evening.
With a career, two kids and one with significant special needs there were never enough hours in the day.
I tried working with a holistic health coach who was wonderful. But, the suggestions didn't always work for my life.
One day I realized, “If I keep this up, these little health issues and mysteries are going to become big ones. Will I be able to continue to take care of my special needs son in 10 years?”
Something was not right. There HAD to be a better way to eat and live so I could feel nourished and healthy even when life is nuts.
So, I dug in and researched. I learned that to find my ideal weight and energy I had to eat MORE.
Constantly depriving myself was not serving me or my family. If a car runs out of gas it will stop but humans just keep pushing themselves until they get sick.
I learned that eating healthy doesn’t need to be complicated. I didn’t need to always be counting- calories and then carbs or even macros. I also learned that if you feed your soul it’s easier to let the food be fuel.
More changes happened in my mid-40's with perimenopause.
So, I found the foods, habits and mindsets that balance hormones and banish food cravings.
But, best of all, these are sustainable changes even when you're managing your career, moving kids into college and taking care of aging parents.
