Feeling SO TIRED and overwhelmed by the end of the week that you're not even sure whose socks you're wearing? (and also thinking: "So how am I ALSO supposed to figure out how to add healthy living?")
Noticing that sugar and carb cravings are increasing and you want that under control but also don't want to live life without the foods you love.
Knowing WHAT you need to do but you just can't seem to fit it into your hectic life or make it happen.
The nagging thought of: "If I don't figure this out, I'm not sure where I'll be in 10 years."
I have been there...
We discovered during pregnancy that our second child would have some significant special needs. I was 35 when he was born and lost the baby weight pretty easily.
But, fast forward 10 years and things had changed!
The weight had started creeping up, even though I was doing the same things.
I talked to my doctor about this and she shrugged and said: “Welcome to Midlife! It’s just what happens!"
I also had terrible sleep, bad skin, poor digestion, anxiety and mood issues but never connected it to food or hormones shifting. I thought it was just the stress of being a parent and a caregiver. But, I knew that I wouldn’t last as a caregiver if I didn’t figure this out.
I saw a health coach who was very knowledgeable. She was also at a very different life stage (half my age and no kids). She had some great ideas but they were hard to implement because I had two small kids and a career to juggle. So, not much changed for the long term.
I jumped into fad diets with gusto! (For a few days at least.) But they would either be unsustainable or unpleasant. Feeling like I was starving, not knowing what I actually could eat or having unpleasant side effects.
And, although I had tackled my sugar addiction years ago. I was still craving processed carbs A LOT.
And the nighttime urge to snack was so immense and I couldn’t figure out how to stop it. I remember one night literally sitting on my hands to try to stop the snacking.
After years of trying things and researching. I finally started to understand WHAT to change but I was still struggling with actually DOING IT! I still felt like it was impossible to the things to take care of me - working out, eating well, friends and downtime - along with the other demands of life. Can you relate?
Slowly, I started testing and implementing some planning and prioritization practices.
Then I became certified as a Holistic Nutrition and Weight Loss coach and learned the tools for mindset and behavior change. I started testing things in MY life to make sure they were actually DOABLE with a busy life.
Once I started to be able to pair the action WITH mindset, planning and habits I started to actually be able to consistently take the action I wanted to take!
